MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – October 18th
Tampa Bay Rays vs. Cleveland Guardians
First Pitch – 5:00 pm EST

Kicking off Game 5 on the mound will be Parker Messick. The Rookie of the Year candidate has been nearly as good in the postseason as he was during the regular season. After closing the first 162 with the 6th best ERA, he’s posted a 3.09 ERA over three appearances. If there is a knock on him, it’s that he isn’t getting all that deep. That doesn’t really matter for our NRFI purposes. What should matter much more is the fact that he’s striking out 10.8 batters per nine innings. He should fan a couple of more early here and give us a clean frame.
If Messick has been great in the postseason, Drew Rasmussen has been a God. Through two appearances, he’s tossed 14.0 innings and allowed just two runs – a 1.29 ERA. In that span, he’s also fanned 17 batters. Cleveland’s bats seemed to cool off quite a bit following the rain out on Friday. We’ll bank on that continuing again and Rasmussen finishing off this NRFI spot.
