MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – October 4th

San Diego Padres vs. Milwaukee Brewers

First Pitch – 4:00 pm EST
American Family Field – Milwaukee, WI
Broadcast – FS1

We got a NRFI from this series in Game 1, and I don’t think there is any reason to doubt it in Game 2. Although the pitchers are taking a step back, they are not much of a step back. Logan Henderson will be the first on the bump. Not only did he post a 2.47 ERA on the year, but put up a better number in September. Plus, he fanned 10.41 batters per nine innings this season. The Padres will go with Michael King, who finished 16th in the majors in ERA. Those arms should be trustworthy enough to get us a clean first.

And if you can’t just trust the arms, you can rest assured that the bats haven’t been all that great either. In fact, nobody was worse in the first inning this year than the Padres. Their 0.42 runs per game put them dead last in the majors. The Brewers were quite a bit better, but we’ll trust that King can keep them quiet for at least three outs.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for October 4: No (TBD)

Atlanta Braves vs. Los Angeles Dodgers

First Pitch – 8:00 pm EST
Dodger Stadium – Los Angeles, CA
Broadcast – FS1

First to tow the rubber in the nightcap will be Blake Snell. The numbers for him are wildly good in a small sample. He threw just nine games this year and just 42.2 innings. However, he did strike out 55 batters and put up a 1.90 ERA in that stretch. That already seems like a tough task and then you add in how much the Braves have struggled in the first inning. They ranked in the bottom third of the league in first inning scoring this season, and should put up another goose egg here.

There isn’t an announced starter for the Braves at the time of publishing, but the rumor has it that Chris Sale is good to go. He started the first game of the Wild Card series and then closed the last game as well. He looked untouchable at all times in those games. Furthermore, he had a great start against the Dodgers back in August. He threw a complete game shutout with 11 strikeouts and no walks in that one, so one inning should be a walk in the park.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for October 4: No (-160)
