#8 New York Liberty vs #4 Atlanta Dream

The first round of the WNBA Playoffs went the way of the chalk, save for one matchup, where the #8-seeded New York Liberty swept the league’s top team, the Minnesota Lynx, in two straight games. However, a team that just won the WNBA Championship two seasons ago and is led by Breanna Stewart and Sabrina Ionescu is hardly a Cinderella story.
The Liberty will have to pull off another upset in the best-of-five semifinals, travelling down south to face the Atlanta Dream. In a strange twist, the road team won all three of the Liberty and Dream’s regular-season meetings, with the Liberty winning once in Atlanta, and the Dream winning twice in Brooklyn.
This is all the stranger since Atlanta was one of the league’s strongest home teams (15-7) this season, while New York was a middle-of-the-pack road team (12-10). After the requisite number crunching, my line for Sunday’s Game 1 is Atlanta -6.5, so the Dream on the spread is my best bet to end the weekend.
