PFL MENA Welterweight Fight: Badreddine Diani vs Hazem Kayyali
Card Start Time: Friday (10/2), 10:00am EST (VICE TV)
PFL MENA returns to Saudi Arabia for the semifinals of their three tournaments. Two spots in the finals are up for grabs at featherweight, lightweight and welterweight. It’s the latter of the trio that we’re digging into for our pick here.
Veteran Badreddine Diani steps into the cage on Friday morning – looking to punch his second ticket to a PFL MENA finals. Last year he made it to the welterweight finals and dropped a five-round decision to eventual champion Mohammad Alaqraa. In that fight, there were a lot of positives out of Diani. He was sharp on the feet, quick to return fire, and even scored some late top control on a strong grappler. Some of that could have been due to his clear advantage in the cardio realm.
All of those things should play up even more against Hazem Kayyali. Kayyali is very explosive and quick with his movements. However, sometimes he sacrifices precision for quickness. Additionally, those traits led him to being tired down the stretch of his last fight, ultimately getting him taken down.
If Diani can avoid the big shots early, he should be able to turn up the pressure and win this with his pace.
