College Football Pick Of The Day (September 19th): NCAA Week 3 Spread Pick
NC State (+3) @ Vanderbilt
Saturday, September 19th, 9:45 AM Pacific, 12:45 PM Eastern
For today’s college football pick of the day, I’m looking at the NC State-Vanderbilt game. There’s been some line movement as Vanderbilt was a 4-point favorite and now sees themselves down to three. Vanderbilt is 2-0 but hasn’t covered in either game. The Commodores beat Austin Peay 28-9 and Delaware 35-36.
Now they’ll hand the keys over to freshman Jared Curtis for his first career start after he came off the bench against Delaware. He had 14 completions on 22 attempts for 210 yards. He also had a passing touchdown and two rushing touchdowns. It was a promising showing. However, the defensive talent level between NC State and Delaware is very different.
NC State is 1-1. They had an ugly loss 34-8 at Virginia, and it seems like the market is still pricing them as that team. The 73-0 win over Richmond may have been against a small school. However, I think it’ll help fuel this team. CJ Bailey is back, and the Wolfpack have posted 40.5 points per game through two.
The Commodores have real talent. They also have operational issues that showed up against Delaware, and Clark Lea is still sorting out a post-Pavia offense. I don’t need NC State to win outright here, though I think they could. I just need a team that’s 0-2 ATS making a quarterback change to start slow. A 3-point cushion is favorable. I’m taking NC State +3.
