Portland Fire vs Golden State Valkyries
Start Time: 10:00 PM EST
Make it two for two for the Golden State Valkyries. Two years in the WNBA for the franchise, and playoff berths in both of those seasons. But the Valkyries have upped the ante in their sophomore season, running a 29-11 record with four games to play, making them, as mentioned above, the league’s second-best team behind the Minnesota Wild.
First-year franchise the Portland Fire haven’t been able to follow Golden State’s blueprint to success in their inaugural season, limping to a 16-24 record (that’s good enough for the #9 seed in the league, one spot out of the playoffs, so it wasn’t a total train wreck of a season).
Limping is the right description, as the visiting Fire have a lot of players on their injury report as of this article’s writing (the Valkyries just added two key players as well, unfortunately). However, with Golden State beating Portland by 17 and 18 points in their two previous meetings this season, I think the home side still covers for us tomorrow.
