MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – September 6

Los Angeles Angels vs. Pittsburgh Pirates

First Pitch – 1:35 pm EST
PNC Park –Pittsburgh, PA
Broadcast – MLB TV

Paul Skenes heads to the mound for his next start here. While Skenes is definitely down a tick from his Cy Young contender status, he is still really good. He posted a 3.10 ERA in the month of August and still ranks in the top 15 of strikeouts. Plus, it should be easy for him to get out of the first inning with the Angels standing across from him. They rank 26th in runs per game and have scored just nine runs over their last three games combined.

Closing out this NRFI is Walbert Urena. While Urena wasn’t a household name, even in prospect circles, prior to the season, he actually has a lower ERA than Skenes. He carries a 2.85 ERA into Sunday’s action and has started to find some big strikeout stuff. He fanned eight last time out and found seven on two different occasions in August. While Pittsburgh is near the top of the league in scoring, they have scored just one run in back-to-back games and Urena should extend that misery.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for September 6: No (-145)

Detroit Tigers vs. Cleveland Guardians

First Pitch – 1:40 pm EST
Progressive Field – Cleveland, OH
Broadcast – MLB TV

We didn’t get a hit on this series on Saturday, but that doesn’t change the tune of how bad these offenses can be. Detroit ranks 19th in the majors in runs per game. They also have scored just 20 regulation runs over their five games, which puts them at just 4.00 runs per game. The Guardians are much worse even than that. Not only have they only scored 14 runs in their last five games (2.80 per game), but they also rank 29th in the majors in run scoring – only ahead of Seattle.

To make matters worse for both of these offenses, we also have a stellar pitching matchup on hand. Gavin Williams and his 3.81 ERA will be on the bump first. He’s third in the majors with 217 strikeouts this season. He’ll be facing the youngster Jackson Jobe, who has looked like the prospect we were hyped on since coming up. In five starts across August, he held opponents to one or less runs in three of them.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for September 6: No (-160)

Bonus Pick: Braves/Phillies NRFI (-105)
