Week 0 is in the books and our guy Jeff Fox gave us a clean split with a pair of underdogs. However, before he could build any momentum, he disappeared on vacation, leaving yours truly in charge of the action. Luckily for you, I dug through all the action and found some gems to get in on. For my college football predictions and best bets for Week 1, we’re off to the midwest and the Atlantic coast for a couple of plays. Let’s hit the gridiron!
College Football Predictions & Best Bets for Week 1
Purdue Boilermakers vs Indiana State Sycamores
Start Time: 7:00 PM EST
Maybe this isn’t the big game that people are licking their chops for on Thursday, but it is one that has a line that I like. Purdue looked ugly last year, finishing with a 2-9 record. Their only two wins came in cupcake matchups they started the year with and they ended on a nine-game losing streak.
The important part of this run is that there wasn’t a single game that they put up 36 points in. Now, without very much in the way of significant transfers, they’re expected to win by more than that. Obviously Indiana State isn’t much of a threat, but I just don’t think Purdue has the firepower to cover here.
Best Bet: Indiana State +35.5 (-110)
UMass Minutemen vs Rutgers Scarlet Knights
Start Time: 6:00 PM EST
Our second contest includes the team that everybody has grown to love to fade. UMass has been the most embarrassing program since moving our of FBS. They cheer for field goals when they’re down a half dozen touchdowns and celebrate wins before they happen. They not only went winless in 2025, but they allowed at least 42 points in each of their last four contests.
Rutgers, meanwhile, got a transfer quarterback from Boston College in Dylan Lonergan. He showed some signs of brilliance, including nearly knocking off Georgia Tech in a shootout. He should tear apart this defense and give an easy cover of this spread.
