The UFC put on a banger of a card in Shanghai, but they’re not quite ready to head home yet. They’ll make a pitstop in Europe for UFC Paris this Saturday. It’s headlined by recent UFC signee, Salahdine Parnasse, as he looks to find his footing in the organization against Dan Hooker. In addition, there are a number of great fights up and down this card.

Main Card Pick of the Week: UFC Paris
UFC Welterweight Fight: Daniil Donchenko vs Punahele Soriano
Start Time: Saturday (9/5) 12:00pm EST (Paramount+)
Kicking off the UFC Paris main card is a banger between a pair of welterweights. One of these gentlemen is on the rise as a hot prospect in the sport. On the other hand, the second has found his footing in a new division and is threatening to make a run of his own. Therefore, one is going to make that jump forward and the other takes a step back.
Since moving to welterweight, Punahele Soriano has been unstoppable. He’s won four straight fights with a heavy dose of wrestling that has allowed him to control fights. He did mix a knockout in there for good measure, but has largely been racking up control time on the ground and winning rounds.
The same can’t be said for Daniil Donchenko. The Ukrainian prospect is running through people. He’s picked up two knockouts in three fights. Additionally, he has yet to be in a UFC fight where he didn’t knock his opponent down. His hands are fast and he’s ready for violence. More importantly, he’s shown that he has the ability to stuff takedowns and force people to fight in his world. For instance, in his Ultimate Fighter finale fight, he shut down the majority of what Rodrigo Sezinando shot his way.
If Soriano cannot reliably get this fight to the ground when he wants, he is likely to be outmatched. Although he’s done so in the past, I don’t expect it here. As a result, this line should look like a steal.
