MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – August 29
Boston Red Sox vs. New York Yankees
First Pitch – 1:05 pm EST
Yankee Stadium – Bronx, NY
Broadcast – MLB TV
Game one of this series didn’t see a lot of hitting. It ended 1-0 with a third inning solo home run being the only action on the board. There is a lot pointing to another pitchers’ duel in this one as well.
The Red Sox enter this one losers of two straight. More importantly, they didn’t score in either of those games. In their series with the Marlins, prior to this one, they scored just six total runs. Now they’ll have to deal with Carlos Rodon, who steps into this one with a 3.15 ERA in his shortened season. He’s also striking out 9.61 per nine innings, which should help get him through the first against this slumping Boston squad.
We’ve seen a bit more offense from the Yankees over their last couple of games. Instead of scoring no runs in their last two games, they’ve scored two total runs. They’ve also been much worse hitting since the trade deadline passed and have fallen all the way into the bottom half of the league in run scoring. They’re even worse in the first inning, where they’ve dropped into the bottom third of the league. That’s music to the ears of Jake Bennett. While he’s not quite as sharp as he was at the beginning of the season, he’s put up a 3.62 ERA over his last two months and has seen a recent uptick in his strikeouts.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for August 29: No (-120)
Seattle Mariners vs. Toronto Blue Jays
First Pitch – 3:07 pm EST
Rogers Centre – Toronto, ON
Broadcast – MLB TV
We kick off this NRFI with the Mariners at the plate, and that’s about as good of a place as you can be. Seattle is the worst team in the league when it comes to runs per game and are one of just two teams that come in under 4.00 runs per game. In addition, they’re also in the bottom third of the league when it comes to scoring in the first inning. Jose Soriano has been up and down since joining Toronto, but has a 4.22 ERA and a pair of one run performances against tough lineups. With Seattle being the task at hand, he should be able to rise to the occasion for us.
Closing out this NRFI at the plate are the Blue Jays. They just so happen to be the other team in the majors that is averaging below 4.00 runs per game. They also happen to be dead last when it comes to scoring in the first inning. Rookie Kade Anderson will get his second start in this one, and this is a much friendlier matchup than his debut against the Cubs. Even against that better lineup, he had them scoreless into the 5th. The first three outs should be easy enough here.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for August 29: No (-135)
Bonus Pick: Rangers/Brewers NRFI (-115)
Looking to put together a three-pick parlay? This extra play may just be the piece that you’re looking for. Throw it together with the other two to net a three-pick parlay for +496.
