MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – August 26
Boston Red Sox vs. Miami Marlins
First Pitch – 6:40 pm EST
loanDepot park – Miami, FL
Broadcast – MLB TV
The Red Sox enter action on Wednesday winners of their last five. However, despite that run, their offense isn’t exactly firing on all cylinders. In that stretch, they’ve averaged just 4.00 runs per game (not counting extra innings). In addition to their full game woes at the plate, they also rank 27th in the league in terms of first inning scoring. That’s good news for our NRFI and for Ryan Gusto. The Marlins righty takes the bump to close out one of the best months of his career. He hasn’t allowed more than two runs in any of his four starts this month and carries a 2.41 August ERA.
While that help is good for him, Sonny Gray shouldn’t really need any help. His season ERA comes in at just 2.79 and he’s been even better this month – holding a 2.19 ERA and keeping two of his four opponents scoreless. He’s currently projected to finish in the top five for AL Cy Young voting. That should be plenty to keep Miami in check on Wednesday. They’ve scored just 18 runs over their last five games (3.60 runs per game) and have really struggled in the first two games of this series. Perhaps that’s not a terrible surprise being that they’re in the bottom third of the league in scoring and first inning scoring.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for August 26: No (-130)
Texas Rangers vs. Chicago White Sox
First Pitch – 7:40 pm EST
Rate Field – Chicago, IL
Broadcast – MLB TV
Sean Burke gets the ball first in this one and he’s been a big reason as to why the White Sox have been able to rise to being one of the top teams in the American League. He sits in the top 20 of ERA, WHIP and strikeouts in the majors and regularly gives the bullpen a rest day. He’ll get a Texas team here that has underperformed expectations all season. They rank 25th in runs scored and are coming off that series with the Angels in which they scored just seven total runs.
Toeing the rubber in the bottom of the first will be MacKenzie Gore. His numbers have slipped a bit from last year, but the strikeout stuff persists. He’s fanned 161 guys on the year and has sat down at least seven in about half of his starts. He’s really found his groove late here with a 1.57 ERA this month and 27 strikeouts in 25.0 innings. The White Sox are a slightly above average team with the bats, but we can ride the success of Gore to an NRFI cash here.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for August 26: No (-130)
Bonus Pick: Phillies/Mariners NRFI (-140)
