The UFC’s world tour continues, as the octagon moves from Sacramento, California, to Shanghai, China, this weekend for a Fight Night. And if the odds are any indication, we have a squash match for a main event. For my MMA Underdog Pick of the Week: UFC Shanghai, I’ve got a live dog in Saturday’s co-main event. UFC Fight Night: Nurmagomedov vs Song
Start Time: 3:00 AM EST
I’m a bit surprised by the line for Saturday’s co-main event, a women’s strawweight matchup between former title challenger Yan Xiaonan and up-and-comer Denise Gomes. While Yan is a big step up in competition for the young Brazilian, there are plenty of positive factors on Gomes’s side.
First off, Yan has been out of action since April 2025 and hasn’t won a fight since November 2024. Meanwhile, Gomes has won four straight bouts over the past three years. The Brazilian is also 10 years younger than her Chinese opponent, a massive age gap for a weight class where speed matters. Along with her powerful striking and strong grappling, this all makes Dee a live dog in my eyes.
