MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – August 25
Cleveland Guardians vs. Los Angeles Angels
First Pitch – 9:38 pm EST
Angel Stadium – Anaheim, CA
Broadcast – MLB TV
Kicking off this NRFI play on Tuesday is Walbert Urena. The 22-year old righty has been one of the few bright spots for the Angels this season. Despite being outside of the top 20 prospects in the organization entering the season, he has posted a 2.80 ERA in 21 starts. He’s held his opponents to one or less runs in six of his last eight starts and threw well against Cleveland when he saw them early in the year. Perhaps that’s not a surprise with Cleveland ranking 27th in the majors in run scoring. Urena should be able to keep his run going against this lineup.
While we’ve got an Angels pitcher that we want to tail, we have an Angels lineup that we want to fade. They are coming out of a series with Texas in which they scored just seven total runs. Gavin Williams isn’t the pitcher you want to see when you’re in a skid like that. He’s one of just three arms with 200+ strikeouts on the year (along with Jacob Misiorowski and Dylan Cease). With the Angels similarly in the bottom third of the league in run scoring, I love his chances to rack up a few more in the first inning here.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for August 25: No (TBD)
Cincinnati Reds vs. San Francisco Giants
First Pitch – 9:45 pm EST
Oracle Park – San Francisco, CA
Broadcast – MLB TV
Cincinnati started hot this year, but have steadily headed in a downwards trajectory offensively. They now have fallen all the way down to 24th in the league and put up just nine runs in their last series. That’s music to the ears of Adrian Houser, who toes the rubber on Tuesday. He’s been lights out in the month of August. Over four appearances, he’s put up a 0.55 ERA with just four walks all month. We can trust him to drag this streak on for at least one more inning for us.
In the bottom of the inning, we get a Giants lineup that is one of the worst in the league when it comes to scoring first inning runs. They rank 29th – only ahead of the Blue Jays – when it comes to getting on the board in the opening frame. I’d probably take a pitching machine to put up a blank frame against them. Hopefully Brady Singer can do one better for us. He’s kept the first inning empty in seven of his last eight starts and that should be good enough for Tuesday.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for August 25: No (TBD)
Bonus Pick: Athletics/Twins NRFI (TBD)
