MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – August 16

Kansas City Royals vs. Los Angeles Angels

First Pitch – 4:07 pm EST
Angel Stadium – Anaheim, CA
Broadcast – MLB TV

In the top of the first, the Royals get the first cuts. They have been awful at the plate this year – coming in at 23rd in the league in run scoring with just 4.11 runs per game. The last three games haven’t been kind to them either. They’ve scored just nine runs in their last three games, which includes being shutout to start the weekend. That’s music to the ears of Ryan Johnson, who toes the rubber for the Angels in this one. While the season numbers don’t look stellar, he’s on a nice roll for himself. Over his last two starts, he’s held his opponents to just one run a piece and posted a 2.00 ERA in that span. That should be enough to get us through three outs here.

To round this one out, we have one of the hottest pitchers in the league. Over his last four starts, Noah Cameron has been on fire. He’s logged 28.2 innings and struck out 26 batters. He’s done that while putting up a 1.57 ERA in those games. Now he gets an Angels team that hasn’t exactly been lighting the scoreboard up. They rank 25th in the majors in run scoring and put up just one on Saturday.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for August 16: No (+100)

Seattle Mariners vs. Houston Astros

First Pitch – 7:20 pm EST
Daikin Park – Houston, TX
Broadcast – NBC

For our second NRFI, we’ll look to the nightcap. The Astros play host to the Mariners with Hunter Brown on the bump. Brown is rocking a solid 3.68 ERA on the year and has been a touch better over the last month. In addition to the 3.04 ERA he’s put up over that span, he’s also not allowed an earned run in the first inning in any of his last five starts. That’s a solid sign against a Seattle team that ranks 25th in the league in run scoring in the first inning.

To close this one out, Bryan Woo is on the hill. After a couple of rocky starts, he’s found his way in his last two. He didn’t allow an earned run in either of the last two and threw 12.0 innings in the process. Additionally, he only allowed six total hits in those two games. Houston is an above average hitting team this year, but if that version of Woo shows up, he should get us through the first without many problems.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for August 16: No (-125)

Bonus Pick: Braves/Diamondbacks NRFI (+100)
