MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – August 10
New York Mets vs. Atlanta Braves
First Pitch – 7:15 pm EST
Truist Park – Atlanta, GA
Broadcast – MLB TV
The Mets saw a power surge on Sunday in the finale against the Pirates, but I’m still not buying that offense. They rank 22nd in the league in runs with just 4.19 per game and they’re even worse in the first inning. They rank 26th in that category. Scoring won’t get any easier with Bryce Elder on the bump. His season stats have been solid, but it’s his recent performances that will blow you away. Over his last three starts, he’s posted a 1.50 ERA and allowed just nine hits in 18.0 innings of work. He should breeze through the top of this order and get our week started right.
To close out the NRFI, we get Christian Scott toeing the rubber. He enters Monday’s action with a 3.15 ERA and he was even better over the month of July. He posted a 2.59 ERA last month with 32 strikeouts in just 24.2 innings of work. While he’s taken the loss in each of the two times he’s faced the Braves, his last outing saw him allow just one run. Plus, the Braves are slumping at the moment. They only scored eight total runs against the Yankees in their series in the Bronx over the weekend, and we can count on a slow start to this one.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for August 10: No (-115)
Kansas City Royals vs. Los Angeles Dodgers
First Pitch – 10:10 pm EST
Dodger Stadium – Los Angeles, CA
Broadcast – MLB TV
Tarik Skubal is on the mound again for the defending champions. There’s plenty of talk about how he might not be his old self just yet, but that’s a compliment when you’re rocking a 2.81 ERA and are striking out 10.69 batters per nine innings. Even if he’s not himself, the Royals are pretty brutal at the plate. They rank 24th in the league in run scoring and their last five games aren’t helping those numbers. They’ve scored 17 runs in that stretch – putting up a 3.40 runs per game mark. Skubal should be able to handle that for three quick outs and get us into the bottom of the first.
Looking to close out this NRFI is Noah Cameron. While some might have doubts about Skubal, nobody can say the same for Cameron lately. Over his last three appearances (23.0 innings), he’s allowed just one run for a 0.39 ERA. More impressively is the fact that we’ve seen a huge spike in his strikeout stuff. He’s fanned 24 batters in that run, which represents more than 20% of his season total. He gets the added boost of facing a slumping Dodgers team, who has scored just 14 runs over their last five games (2.80 runs per game).
NRFI/YRFI Bet for August 10: No (-130)
Bonus Pick: Padres/Brewers NRFI (-130)
