MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – August 2
Texas Rangers vs. Houston Astros
First Pitch – 2:10 pm EST
Daikin Park – Houston, TX
Broadcast – MLB TV
Texas gets first rips on Sunday and they’ve been struggling at the plate. Not only are they 24th in the majors in runs scoring, but they have been far worse recently. They’ve scored just eight runs over their recent four-game losing streak, which is less than half of their usual total. Facing Peter Lambert isn’t going to help that. He has a 3.03 ERA on the year and just cracked 100 strikeouts. He also kept a 1.88 ERA through the month of July and should be able to keep that momentum going against a slumping Texas squad.
Closing this one out will be Kumar Rocker. The Vanderbilt product has locked in lately – allowing three or less runs in five of his last six games. In addition, we’ve also seen a significant uptick in his strikeout totals. He grabbed more than a strikeout per inning over the month of July. Houston is a slightly above average lineup, but as long as he keeps Yordan Alvarez in the park, this should cash.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for August 2: No (-105)
Milwaukee Brewers vs. Los Angeles Angels
First Pitch – 3:15 pm EST
Angel Stadium – Anaheim, CA
Broadcast – Peacock
Closing out the NRFI will be a pitchers’ duel. The less hyped of the two arms is on the bump first. But don’t let the lack of hype on Walbert Urena let you fade him. He’s been sensational during his rookie season. He has a 2.70 ERA and 88 strikeouts in 93.1 innings. Those numbers are nothing to scoff at. He also gets a Brewers team that is cooling off quite a bit. Despite being near the top of the league in scoring, they’ve scored just 20 runs in their last five games (4.00 per game). That total would put them in the bottom third of the league in that span.
Tossing the bottom of the first is the most hyped pitcher in the league. Jacob Misiorowski is the presumed winner of the NY Cy Young. While there is still two months left in the season, the youngster is already lined at -400 to take home the hardware. As if he needed any help, he gets an Angels team that is riding a five-game losing streak. They’ve scored just 13 runs in that span – or 2.60 runs per game. With the Angels already pulling players for potential trades, they may be even lighter work on Sunday for Miz.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for August 2: No (-155)
Bonus Pick: Twins/Mariners NRFI (-140)
