While the UFC continues to be the king when it comes to MMA and gambling, there is more MMA than ever to bet on now. Promotions all over the world as well as domestic ones are showing up in sportsbooks. The advantage here is that the data is usually quite a bit less sharp than when you’re making MMA predictions for the UFC. So we’ve decided to dig into some each week to get you started on your regional MMA journey. This week we keep it domestic for PFL New York from New York for our regional MMA pick.

MMA Regional Pick of the Week: PFL New York
PFL Bantamweight Fight: Sean Gauci vs Allan Begosso
Card Start Time: Friday (7/31), 4:00pm EST (ESPN)
The PFL cards have been a crapshoot in terms of what fights are on and which are off. They lost two fights for this card on Wednesday, which includes a fight that had already been changed once. One fight that has stayed consistent though is this one between a couple of hot bantamweight prospects.
Gauci’s hot streak isn’t just recent – he’s been on a tear for years. After losing his fourth professional fight, he’s tallied eight straight wins. That includes a decision over UFC title challenger Steve Erceg, a Dana White Contender Series win, and a successful PFL debut against Liam Gittins. The thing that makes him so tough to beat is that he has above average wrestling, which helps him dictate were the fight takes place. Then he matches that with some big power in his hands – giving him an advantage in more than one facet over many bantamweights.
Those two skills should play well against Begosso. Despite a great end to his LFA career, Begosso has always struggled a bit with the wrestling side of things. It lead to a loss to Farid Basharat on Contender Series and a subsequent loss to John Sweeney in LFA. While Gauci doesn’t quite have the wrestling we’ve seen out of Basharat, he should have enough to dominate this fight on the mat if he wants it there. He should also be able to hold his own on the feet.
