MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – July 28
Arizona Diamondbacks vs. Pittsburgh Pirates
First Pitch – 6:40 pm EST
PNC Park – Pittsburgh, PA
Broadcast – MLB TV
Arizona gets first hacks in this one. They may be a league average team when it comes to scoring runs, but they are near the bottom of the league when it comes to the first inning. They rank 23rd in first inning runs scored and have been hitting worse than usual over the weekend. Now they get Bubba Chandler, who is getting hot at the right time. While his yearly stats might not inspire confidence, he has been good over his last couple starts. In those games (11.0 innings pitched), he’s struck out 11 batters while allowing just seven hits – posting a 1.64 ERA in the process.
Closing out this NRFI play for us is the Pirates. There is no sugarcoating it, the Pirates are a tough team to keep off the board this season. However, Brandon Pfaadt has looked tremendous since returning to this rotation. Since becoming a starter again, he’s racked up five starts and logged 27.0 innings. In that time, he’s allowed just seven total runs (a 2.33 ERA) and has only walked three guys. That’s the type of arm you need in there to keep the Pirates quiet for at least three outs.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for July 28: No (-115)
Houston Astros vs. Los Angeles Angels
First Pitch – 9:38 pm EST
Angel Stadium – Anaheim, CA
Broadcast – ESPN
In our nightcap, we’ll lean on a couple more hot arms. Reid Detmers has an ERA that is just over 4.00, but his last two games have been electric. He’s fanned 11 in 11.1 innings of work while only allowing eight total baserunners and one run. That’s an 0.79 ERA in that limited sample. Against a middle of the pack Houston team, as long as he keeps Yordan Alvarez in the park, he should get out of the first inning unscathed.
The next hot arm that we see is Peter Lambert. He hasn’t allowed more than two earned runs in a July start – posting a 1.52 ERA in the month. He’s also struck out 26 batters in just 23.2 innings of work. With the Angels ranking in the bottom third of the league in scoring runs, there is a good chance that Lambert continues to roll and gets this to cash for us.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for July 28: No (-120)
Bonus Pick: Red Sox/Athletics NRFI (+100)
Looking to put together a three-pick parlay? This extra play may just be the piece that you’re looking for. Throw it together with the other two to net a three-pick parlay of +585.
