Another day, another sweep. We cashed both of our NRFI plays on Wednesday with ease. Now, we have some NRFI bets for July 23.

MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – July 23
Minnesota Twins vs. Cleveland Guardians
First Pitch – 1:10 pm EST
Progressive Field – Cleveland, OH
Broadcast – ESPN
For our afternoon play on the NRFI, we head to Ohio where the Guardians send out Gavin Williams. His 4.00 ERA is respectable, but it’s really his strikeout stuff that we’re after here. He has back-to-back 11 strikeouts games which has brought his total up to 145 on the year – good enough for 4th in the majors. He faced this same Minnesota squad earlier this month and held them scoreless for the first four innings. He should be able to get us through three outs in the encore.
Taj Bradley will toe the rubber on the other side. He, too, has been solid this year. He enters Thursday’s action with a 3.85 ERA and 125 strikeouts in just 107.2 innings. That nets him a spot in the top 15 of strikeouts in MLB as well. He also has the added bonus of facing one of the worst offenses in the league. Cleveland is 28th in the majors with 4.04 runs per game. The top of their order hasn’t been particularly strong either, which is why they are also in the bottom third of the league in first inning scoring.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for July 23: No (-130)
Arizona Diamondbacks vs. St. Louis Cardinals
First Pitch – 5:15 pm EST
Busch Stadium – St. Louis, MO
Broadcast – MLB TV
Speaking of teams that have struggled in the first inning, the Diamondbacks are also in the bottom third of the league in scoring during that frame. While the rest of their offense has picked up lately, they do have the ill-fate of facing Michael McGreevy. The 26-year old righty has been lights out over the last month. In his last four starts (24.2 innings), he’s allowed just four earned runs – good for a 1.46 ERA. He also has kept the walks in check with just one per game over that span. He should have what it takes to slow Arizona down at least for an inning or two.
There’s no need to slow the Cardinals down much more than they already are. In the six games since the All-Star break, they’ve managed to score just 19 total runs (3.17 per game). The worst part is the trajectory of those runs is going in the wrong direction. They’ve scored just four runs over the last three games (1.33 runs per game). That’s music to the ears of Brandon Pfaadt, who has been really good since returning to the rotation. In the four starts since moving back into that role, he’s thrown 21.0 innings and allowed just five earned runs. That comes out to a 2.14 ERA and gives us plenty of faith in this play.
