While the UFC continues to be the king when it comes to MMA and gambling, there is more MMA than ever to bet on now. MMA Regional Pick of the Week: Cage Warriors 209
Cage Warriors Middleweight Fight: Fraser Paterson vs Dmitrii Ceacusta
Card Start Time: Saturday (7/4), 1:30pm EST (UFC Fight Pass)
Cage Warriors brings us a card on Saturday that is a bit below their usual hype level. They have a lot of fighters with three or less fights on their resumes, including a pair of middleweights on the main card. It is there where we find our favorite bet on the card.
Fraser Paterson comes into the fight with a lot of hype. After a solid amateur career, he quickly disposed of Geoff Pavey in his professional debut. However, despite all of that, I have questions about his wrestling. He has largely made it work in his fights, but usually against fighters who struggle on the ground. Pavey, for instance, has been finished in three straight fights on the mat – all of which happened in the first round.
That’s where the experience of Ceacusta comes in. While he’s just 2-0 in his career, his amateur career is filled with high level fights against high level grapplers. He made a run through the GAMMA World Championships at 225lbs where he steamrolled everyone on the mats.
I don’t believe Patterson is ready for the level of wrestling that Ceacusta brings and that should open up the underdog play for us here.
