Prelim Pick of the Week: UFC 329
UFC Middleweight Fight: Damian Pinas vs Cesar Almeida
Start Time: Saturday (7/11) 5:00am EST (Paramount+)
On the prelims of next week’s UFC 329, we have a bout between a pair of middleweights who like to trade leather. Former Glory kickboxer Cesar Almeida will make his sixth walk to the UFC cage. Standing in the other corner will be Damian Pinas – one of last year’s Dana White’s Contender Series best prospects.
There is a lot to love about the line here on Pinas. To start, he should be the much more technical fighter. His ability to cut angles, move in and out, and rip to different levels should all exceed what Almeida can do. In addition to that, he should be even more comfortable on the feet knowing that he doesn’t have to worry about a takedown coming the other way.
To make matters worse for Almeida, he’ll also be at a massive reach disadvantage. Despite both fighters standing at 6’1″ tall, Pinas is going to have a five-inch reach advantage. When you tack on that to the stylistic advantages, it’s a wonder how this line comes in as close as it is.
