Austria vs. Jordan

In the wee hours of the morning, the story for this one has to be the defense of the Austrian squad. They haven’t allowed more than one goal in a game in over a year – which came during a Nations League game against Serbia. Some of that has been the back line’s play, but a tip of the hat to likely starter between the pipes Patrick Pentz – who’s been good for both club and country.
The same can’t be said for Jordan, who has allowed two or more goals in four straight contests. I expect this to be a one-sided affair and a low scoring one at that.

Portugal vs. Congo DR

The story of Congo reaching the World Cup is a beautiful one, but they have really struggled against some mediocre teams. They were knocked out of the Africa Cup of Nations by Algeria in the round of 16, and recently dropped a friendly to Chile. That’s not exactly what you want to hear with Christiano Ronaldo and crew. Portugal’s defense has also not been flawless though, which means we might be looking at an easy over here.
Best Bets for Portugal/Congo DR: Portugal -1.5 (-115) and Over 3.5 Goals (+210)
England vs. Croatia

Is this the year it’s finally coming home? If it is for England, it will likely be due to the keeper play of Jordan Pickford holding up. The Everton backstop has shown signs of brilliance. John Stones and Marc Guéhi holding down the center back spots should help keep him from having to do too much.
Croatia may not have the same recent results as England, but a lot of that comes from challenging themselves against teams like Brazil and Belgium. Plus, they’ll be playing with the added motivation of trying to give Luka Modric one more run through it all. I expect that to buoy them here and they should be able to keep things close.

Ghana vs. Panama
Kickoff – 7:00 pm EST
BMO Field – Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Another team that I think will surprise people with their defense is Ghana. They have not put up many results in the lead up to the tournament, but they’ve held some powerful offenses well below their averages. It took a last minute goal for Germany to pull ahead of them, and a lot of that can be credited to their 5-4-1 formation and the way they deploy it. Take a team in Panama that struggled to score on the likes of Suriname and Honduras in qualifying, and this should stay very low scoring.
Best Bets for Ghana/Panama: Ghana ML (+120) and Under 1.5 Goals (+175)
Uzbekistan vs. Colombia

Estadio Banorte – Mexico City, Mexico

The goal scoring for Colombia has been on point lately. A large part of that has been Sporting CP’s Luis Suarez. He scored in his last four club matches and in 11 of his last 14. He also scored four times in the match that clinched their qualification against Venezuela. Uzbekistan struggled with the Canadian attack in a friendly recently and this will likely be a rude awakening for them.
