It’s “numbered event” time again in the UFC, with UFC 328 emanating from the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. It’s a fairly stacked fight card, with two titles on the line in the night’s last two fights. For my MMA Underdog Pick of the Week: UFC 328, I’m in on the dog in the championship co-main event. Let’s get it on, c’mon!

MMA Underdog Pick of the Week: UFC 328
UFC 328: Chimaev vs Strickland
Start Time: 5:00 PM EST
We have the rare occurrence this week where the champion, in this case UFC Flyweight Champion Joshua Van, is the underdog heading into a title defense. Perhaps it’s due to the “flukey” way Van won a belt (Alexandre Pantoja broke his arm after being thrown down by Van), or perhaps it’s due to challenger Tatsuro Taira’s skillset.
Regardless of the reason, I like Van to retain. His striking and power are second to none in the flyweight division, and his grappling defense is strong enough that I think he can stymie enough of Taira’s wrestling attempts to keep this fight primarily on the feet. At 1.5 times our money, the value is there.
