Prelim Pick of the Week: UFC Winnipeg
UFC Bantamweight Fight: Melissa Croden vs Dariya Zheleznyakova
Start Time: Saturday (4/18) 5:00pm EST (Paramount+)
Saturday feels like a real “buy-low” spot for the Canadian Melissa Croden. After extending her 100% finishing rate into her UFC debut, she faltered in a short notice opportunity against Luana Santos. While that has clearly dropped the public’s confidence in her, there are many reasons it should not.
Firstly, that was Croden’s first foray into the world of short notice fights. Additionally, Santos was a tough matchup for her, even with a full camp. Santos brings strength and heavy grappling to a solid overall game. Those attributes are ones that Croden typically sees an advantage in for herself.
In this fight, she should have that advantage back. Zheleznyakova has struggled with more physical opponents throughout her career. She’s been taken down multiple times in each of her fights in the UFC and has just a 50% takedown defense. Add in that she has not been much of a finisher and the advantages should all favor Croden here.
