MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – April 7

Cincinnati Reds vs. Miami Marlins

First Pitch – 6:40 pm EST
loanDepot park – Miami, FL
Broadcast – MLB TV

Kicking off the top of the first will be Sandy Alcantara, who toes the rubber for the third time this year. Over the first two starts, he threw 16.0 innings without allowing an earned run. That includes a complete game shutout last time out against the White Sox. He’ll get an extra boost with the Reds coming to town. They rank 29th in the league in run scoring and are just one of three teams that currently sits under the 3.00 mark in terms of runs per game. Alcantara should be able to keep the streak alive for at least one more inning.

The bottom of the first might be a bit more of a sweat for NRFI bettors. Miami has been solid at the plate this season and ranks near the top of the league in many offensive categories. However, they have slowed recently, dropping to just 4.00 runs per game over their last four – after being shutout in game one of this series. Now they’ll have to face Andrew Abbott, who has looked solid so far. He’s rocing a 3.09 ERA with nine strikeouts in 11.2 innings. He should be able to get us a quick three for the cash.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for April 7: No (-160)

Athletics vs. New York Yankees

First Pitch – 7:05 pm EST
Yankee Stadium – Bronx, NY
Broadcast – MLB TV

The top of the first in this one will rely on Cam Schlittler. He also finds himself two starts into his season without having allowed an earned run. However, his strikeout numbers are even a touch better than the aformentioned starters. In 11.2 innings, he’s racked up 15 Ks and hasn’t dipped below seven in a start. Sacramento, on the other hand, is one of three teams that has still yet to score a single first inning run. That should continue in this one.

We might sweat a bit more in the bottom of the first, but I’m throwing my hat in the Aaron Civale ring. He had a tremendous start against the Braves in his first outing. If not for an early dinger to Drake Baldwin – who seems to be hitting one a day at this point – he would have been well through the lineup multiple times before any damage. While the Yankees are a dangerous team, I think Civale should be able to keep them in the park for the first inning.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for April 7: No (-120)
