The UFC is back on the road for another numbered event. UFC 327 comes to us from Miami, Florida and is headlined by a bout for the recently vacated light heavyweight belt. Prelim Pick of the Week: UFC 327
UFC Strawweight Fight: Tatiana Suarez vs Lupita Godinez
Start Time: Saturday (4/11) 5:00pm EST (Paramount+)
Buried on the prelims of this UFC 327 card is a strawweight fight with some immediate title shot implications. In a division that has some questions about who is the number one contender, the #2- and #6-ranked fighters do battle. While the line is close, it is one of the ones that I think has the best value on it.
It’s been pretty clear what beats Lupita Godinez in a fight during her UFC stay. Over the course of her 14-fight UFC career, she’s handled just about any fighter that she can wrestle with. That sometimes looks like a dominant wrestling performance from her and sometimes it involves sprawling and brawling a bit. However, each of her losses have come when that advantage was no longer hers.
Unfortunately for Godinez, I do believe this is another instance where she does not have the grappling advantage. She was largely outwrestled and controlled by both Makenzie Dern and Virna Jandiroba. Suarez, in my opinion, is much stronger with her takedown game and has solid top control that should let her control this fight.
Although the layoff for Suarez could be a concern, she should cash as a favorite here.
