Prelim Pick of the Week: UFC Seattle
UFC Bantamweight Fight: Adrian Yanez vs Ricky Simon
Start Time: Saturday (3/28) 5:00pm EST (Paramount+)
When you look at the statistics for Yanez, you see an 81% takedown defense, which definitely is a bonus in a guy known for his striking. However, I think those numbers are largely inflated by the level of wrestler that he’s faced. When he stepped in with fellow striker, Daniel Marcos, he wound up giving up two takedowns in four attempts. Those issues ultimately cost him in fight.
Now he’ll face someone who prioritizes his wrestling. Simon may not be where he was five years ago in terms of his fighting ability, but his wrestling seems to have held up and continues to be his biggest weapon. He has at least two takedowns in 10 of his last 12 fights and has 6 or more in four of those.
Look for Simon to get the wrestling going early. If he does, it should take some of the zip out of the strikes of Yanez. If that happens, it should be one-way traffic for the rest of the fight.
