While the UFC continues to be the king when it comes to MMA and gambling, there is more MMA than ever to bet on now. Promotions all over the world as well as domestic ones are showing up in sportsbooks. The advantage here is that the data is usually quite a bit less sharp than when you’re making MMA predictions for the UFC. So we’ve decided to dig into some each week to get you started on your regional MMA journey. This week we head overseas for PFL Madrid from Spain for our regional MMA pick.

MMA Regional Pick of the Week: PFL Madrid
PFL Middleweight Fight: Fabian Edwards vs Costello Van Steenis
Card Start Time: Friday (3/20), 1:00pm EST (ESPN+)
These two middleweights meet for the second time inside of the cage. They met for the first time during Bellator’s European Series back in 2020, and now square off in Madrid this weekend for the PFL title. Despite it being 5.5 years ago, there is a lot we can take from that first fight.
Watching back the first fight, you can see the majority of the advantages belonged to Van Steenis. He was able to pressure Edwards early, scored some takedowns and even got the better of the early striking exchanges. However, the fight became close late as Edwards prove to have more in the tank down the stretch.
While the late fade from Van Steenis is alarming, he seems to have overcome that issue. His last fight with Johnny Eblen saw him score a 25th minute submission as he wore down the talented grappler. If he has shook off that issue in his game, he should still be better than Edwards in those other areas.
Knowing that, I like him to win that fight. With him being an underdog here, I like it even more.
