Furman at Samford

Start Time: 6:00 PM EST

This game is in the quarterfinal round of the SOCON conference tournament, and it’s being played at a neutral site in Asheville, NC.

Furman enters this game with a 19-12 overall record and a 13-15 overall mark against the spread. Samford comes into this matchup with an 18-13 overall record and 16-13 overall ATS.

These two teams played twice this year. Furman won and covered both home and away. The Paladins won by four as a short underdog at Samford, and covered as a 4.5-point favorite in Greeneville. Furman has won eight out of the last 10 head-to-head matchups and covered in nine out of the last 10.

The game script in both of Furman’s wins over Samford was remarkably similar. The Paladins defended the perimeter, rebounded the ball better, and stayed efficient on the offensive end. As long as they stick to that, they should beat Samford a third time. How they won also tracks with how the metrics see this game. Furman is a much better rebounding team; they’re more efficient on offense, and they have the better defense.

This is simply a bad matchup for Samford. It might be a little sweaty because these teams know each other well, but we’re looking at a one-possession game in which Furman has a clear path to victory. Lock up the Paladins and the 1.5-points and use this as a money line parlay piece today.

Best Bet: Furman +1.5

Southern Miss at Appalachian State

Start Time: 6:30 PM EST

This game is in the quarterfinal round of the Sun Belt Conference tournament, and it’s being played at a neutral site in Pensacola, FL.

Southern Miss enters this matchup with an 18-15 overall record and a 16-15 ATS record. Appalachian State comes into this game with a 19-12 overall record and a 16-13 overall record ATS.

These two teams played twice this year. Appalachian State won both matchups outright. However, Southern Miss covered as an 8.5-point underdog in Boone, NC. Appalachian State covered as a 1.5-point favorite in Hattiesburg.

This is Southern Miss’s third game in three days. They’ve covered as a 1.5-point underdog in wins over South Alabama and Texas State. This is Appalachian State’s first game since February 27th.

Tired legs for Southern Miss are a real concern here, especially in the second half. Southern Miss is in the top-100 in the nation in pace of play. That may catch up with the Golden Eagles in their third straight day of games.

Appalachian State also prefers to grind teams out with a more physical, slower-paced game meant to frustrate and wear on their opposition. The Mountaineers are better on the boards and the much better team on the defensive end. Appalachian State is 29th in the nation in effective field goal percentage against and 27th in the nation in shooting efficiency against. The Mountaineers don’t give up a lot of open looks.

Appalachian State has proven they can win against Southern Miss, and they’re catching a Southern Miss after a pair of high-pressure games. The Mountaineers will grind on Southern Miss for a half, and then pull away in the second half as the Golden Eagles run out of gas. Lock up Appalachian State to win and cover in the Sun Belt quarterfinals.

Best Bet: Appalachian State -4.5

Sacramento State at Idaho

Start Time: 10:00 PM EST

This game is in the 1st round of the Big Sky Conference tournament, and it’s being played at a neutral site in Boise, ID.

Sacramento State comes into this game with a 10-20 overall record and a 12-15 ATS record. The Hornets have not won a game away from Sacramento this year.

Idaho enters this matchup with a 17-14 overall record and a 12-16 ATS record. The Vandals are based in Idaho, but Moscow, ID is only a five-hour drive from Boise, ID. Idaho will have the crowd advantage for this game.

These teams played twice this year, and Idaho won both matchups. Sacramento State covered by the hook in Moscow, while Idaho covered as a 4.5-point favorite in Sacramento.

Sacramento State is poor on the defensive end. The Hornets are 293rd in the nation in three-point shooting percentage against and 324th in the nation in opponent shooting percentage on two-point shots. Idaho can shoot from distance. The Vandals are 83rd in the nation in three-point shooting percentage. Idaho also has a clear advantage on the boards. Sacramento plays at the 12th fastest pace in the nation, but Idaho has handled it in each of its previous two games.

Idaho gets to play in their home state against a team they clearly have the advantage over. Also, Sacramento State has yet to win a game outside of Sacramento. Lock up Idaho to win and cover in the 1st round of the Big Sky Conference tournament.

Best Bet: Idaho -6
