Bellarmine at Central Arkansas
Start Time: 12:00 PM EST
This game is in the quarterfinal round of the ASUN Conference tournament, and it’s being played at a neutral site in Jacksonville, FL.
Bellarmine enters this game with a 13-18 overall record and a 19-10 mark against the spread. Central Arkansas comes into this matchup with a 20-11 overall record and an 18-11 mark ATS.
These two teams split the season series, with each team winning at home. However, Bellarmine covered both games as an underdog. The Knights just won and covered in the opening round of the ASUN tournament as a 1.5-point favorite against Jacksonville. Central Arkansas has been off since February 28th.
Central Arkansas ended the year as one of the hottest teams in the ASUN conference. The Bears won nine of their last 10 games outright, and went 8-2 ATS over that stretch.
This is a case of athletes against staples. Central Arkansas is a much more athletic team, gets after their opponents on the defensive end, and is capable of getting up and down the floor. Bellarmine plays at a slow pace, but gets the absolute most out of every possession. The Knights are really poor on the defensive end. They rank among the worst in the nation at defending the perimeter, and aren’t much better on the inside. Central Arkansas is a much better rebounding team, and is 52nd in the nation in opponent turnovers.
This is the game in which Central Arkansas smashes Bellarmine. The Bears won as an 8.5-point favorite at home, but failed to cover by the hook. The Bears will leave no doubt as they catch Bellarmine on a quick turnaround and will simply outclass the Knights. Lock up Central Arkansas to win and cover against Bellarmine.
Best Bet: Central Arkansas -5.5
Omaha at South Dakota
Start Time: 7:00 PM EST
This game is in the quarterfinal round of the Summit League tournament, and it’s being played at a neutral site in Sioux Falls, SD. This game is played on a neutral site, but South Dakota should have the crowd.
Omaha enters this matchup with a 15-16 overall record and a 13-14 mark overall ATS. South Dakota comes into this game with a 16-15 overall record and a 16-12 mark overall ATS.
South Dakota beat Omaha outright twice this year as an underdog. The Coyotes have covered in six of their last 10 head-to-head matchups against Omaha.
Omaha is 6-4 outright in their last 10 games played, but they’ve covered seven times over that stretch.
South Dakota is 5-5 in their last 10 games, but they’ve covered six times over that stretch of games.
Neither team is really special on the defensive end, but both can score. However, Omaha allows opponents to shoot 56.4% on two-point shots. The Mavericks are 333rd in the nation on opponent two-point shooting percentage. South Dakota is 196th in the nation for two-point shooting percentage. The Coyotes also like to play at pace, while Omaha is a bit slower. Speeding up Omaha has proven effective for the Coyotes in their recent matchups with Omaha. South Dakota is also better at generating turnovers.
South Dakota gets to open Summit League play rested and in their home state. Omaha has struggled away from Nebraska this year. The Mavericks have dropped 10 out of 15 games away from Omaha this year.
The Mavericks have a target on their back since they started beating up garbage cans. They’re also not even close to the same team they were last year. Omaha ran through the tournament last year, but they’ll be making an early exit this year. Lock up Omaha and the points, but don’t be surprised if they win this outright.
Best Bet: South Dakota +2.5
Denver at North Dakota
Start Time: 9:30 PM EST
This game is in the quarterfinal round of the Summit League tournament, and it’s being played at a neutral site in Sioux Falls, SD.
Denver comes into this matchup with a 15-16 overall record and an 18-10 mark overall ATS. North Dakota enters this game with a 16-16 overall mark and a 17-12 record overall ATS.
Each team won and covered on their opponents’ floor this year. North Dakota has won and covered in six of their last 10 games against Denver.
Denver is 6-4 overall and ATS in its last 10 games played, but most of the losses have come outside of Denver. North Dakota has also won and covered in six of its last 10 games played. However, the Fighting Hawks have been much better away from North Dakota.
Denver is playing this tournament with a first-year head coach who has never led a team into a conference tournament in D1 basketball before. Conference tournament season is a different animal than the regular season, and North Dakota has been through this before.
Most of the metrics favor Denver, but North Dakota has clipped the Pioneers already this year. Denver is better on offense, but North Dakota has a slight advantage on defense. North Dakota is 33rd in the nation in generating turnovers on the defensive end. The Fighting Hawks are also capable of scoring in the paint, and Denver is a little soft in the middle. Let’s lock up North Dakota and the points to get the cover in this matchup.
Best Bet: North Dakota +3.5
