Georgia State at UL-Lafayette
Start Time: 6:00 PM EST
This game is in the opening round of the Sun Belt Conference tournament, and it’s being played at a neutral site in Pensacola, FL.
Georgia State comes into this game with a 10-21 overall record and a 13-16 mark against the spread. UL-Lafayette enters this matchup with a 10-20 overall record and a 14-16 mark overall against the spread.
These two teams met in late January, and UL-Lafayette won by 10 points as a 1.5-point underdog.
Georgia State is 1-9 in its last 10 games played, but the Panthers are 3-7 ATS over that stretch. UL-Lafayette is 5-5 overall and ATS in their last 10 games played.
From a metrics perspective, this matchup favors UL-Lafayette. The Ragin’ Cajuns play at a slow pace, limit possessions, and try to take advantage of opportunities when they can. They only allow opponents to score 70.0 points per game this year. That’s 61st in the nation, but it’s more a function of their pace than their ability. On offense, UL-Lafayette can shoot from range, but isn’t anything special in the paint.
Georgia State is surprisingly rough from the field, and this really plays into UL-Lafayette’s hands. The Panthers can’t really shoot from anywhere except the free-throw line. The Ragin’ Cajuns are the better rebounding team, and that should be the difference on the scoreboard. UL-Lafayette will keep this game close with pace and take advantage of Georgia State misses. Let’s lock up UL-Lafayette to move on to the next round.
Best Bet: UL-Lafayette +1.5
Clemson at North Carolina
Start Time: 7:00 PM EST
Clemson enters this game with a 21-8 overall record and a 6-4 mark on the road. The Tigers are 17-12 overall ATS and 7-3 ATS on the road.
North Carolina comes into this matchup with a 23-6 overall record and a 17-0 mark at home. The Tar Heels are 16-13 overall ATS and 11-6 ATS at home.
These two teams have split the last 10 matchups head-to-head, but Clemson is 6-4 ATS over that stretch. Clemson has won outright in two of their last three at Chapel Hill as an underdog.
Clemson is 5-5 overall and ATS in the Tigers’ last 10 games played. They just broke a four-game losing streak with a win at home over Louisville as a 2.5-point underdog.
North Carolina has won four of their last six since storming the court on Duke. However, they’re 3-3 ATS over that stretch.
Clemson is catching North Carolina at the best time possible. North Carolina has one regular-season game left after this game. It’s against Duke in Cameron Indoor Arena. The Tar Heels stormed on Duke in a win at Chapel Hill. In the game before the court storm, North Carolina won against Syracuse, but failed to cover. Clemson is a lot better than the Orange and just got off the slide.
Clemson can stay in front of a Tar Heels team without Caleb Wilson and get the Tar Heels looking ahead to Duke. The Tigers have a solid, veteran group that can take advantage of opportunities against high-quality opponents. Clemson is good at keeping teams off the board, and they can make their free throws. This should be a one-possession game, and the Tigers are catching more than one possession. Lock up the Tigers to keep it close and sprinkle the money line.
Best Bet: Clemson +3.5
Old Dominion at UL-Monroe
Start Time: 8:30 PM EST
This game is in the opening round of the Sun Belt Conference tournament, and it’s being played at a neutral site in Pensacola, FL.
Old Dominion enters this game with an 11-20 overall record and a 16-14 mark overall ATS. UL-Monroe comes into this matchup with a 4-27 overall record and a 17-12 mark ATS.
These two teams played in January in Norfolk. UL-Monroe won outright by six points as a 13.5-point underdog. This was the Warhawks’ only road win all season. ULM is 1-9 in their last 10 games, but are 7-3 ATS over that stretch. Old Dominion is 5-5 overall in their last 10 games played, but they’re 6-4 ATS over that stretch. The Monarchs have won three of their last five games.
The handicap here is simple. Old Dominion got embarrassed on its home floor against UL-Monroe, and now it gets a chance to end its season. The line is telling. The Monarchs laid 13.5 points as a home favorite, but they’re laying 10.5 points in a neutral site against the team they beat? Old Dominion runs ULM off the court. UL-Monroe won’t get to shoot 36 free throws again. Lock up Old Dominion and lay the 10.5. Monarchs roll the Warhawks in a revenge game.
Best Bet: Old Dominion -10.5
