Dayton at VCU
Start Time: 7:00 PM EST
Dayton enters this game with a 15-8 overall record and a 3-4 mark on the road. The Flyers are 9-14 against the spread overall and 3-4 ATS on the road.
VCU comes into this matchup with a 17-6 overall record and an 11-2 mark at home. The Rams are 10-13 ATS overall and 4-9 ATS at home.
These two teams split last year’s series by winning at each other’s gym. VCU has won six of the last 10 matchups in this series, but covered seven out of 10.
Dayton just snapped a four-game losing streak with a win at home against St. Bonaventure. The Flyers have lost and failed to cover three straight road games. VCU has won four of its last five home games, but hasn’t covered in any of their last five home games.
VCU is very efficient on the offensive end, while Dayton can be leaky on defense. The Rams have the 35th-best scoring offense in the nation. They’re also 54th in effective field goal percentage and 40th in offensive efficiency. Dayton is 191st in the nation in effective field goal percentage against and 182nd in the nation in shooting efficiency against.
VCU is also the better rebounding team and better at protecting the ball on offense. Dayton will also have to face this team in one of the more hostile environments in the A-10. The Rams have the more potent offense, clear advantages on defense, and get to play in their gym. Everything is pointing to VCU rolling in this one. Lock up the Rams to win and cover the 6.5-point spread.
Best Bet: VCU -6.5
Evansville at Valparaiso
Start Time: 8:00 PM EST
Evansville enters this matchup with a 5-18 overall record and a 1-8 mark on the road. The Purple Aces are 9-12 ATS overall and 5-4 ATS on the road.
Valparaiso comes into this game with an 11-12 overall record and a 9-4 mark at home. The Crusaders are 16-6 ATS overall and 9-3 ATS at home.
Evansville has won four straight games in this series and covered three times over that stretch.
The Purple Aces are 1-9 in their last 10 games, but have covered four out of 10 despite all the losing. Valparaiso is 5-5 in their last 10 games, but covered nine games over that stretch.
The metrics favor Valparaiso. These two teams are similar on the offensive end, but Valpo has maintained the better defense this season. However, the Crusaders have been the worse shooting team between the two, and Evansville is capable of getting buckets on the inside. There’s not much to this game from a metrics perspective. This play does have a local angle that’s likely more important.
This is a regional matchup that Evansville has historically gotten up for. We’ve also seen Evansville cover similar numbers this season. This game is likely a rock fight between two teams that know each other well. It likely ends up as a one-to-two-possession game, and the Purple Aces are catching nearly four possessions. Lock up Evansville to stay within the beefy number.
Best Bet: Evansville +10
Bradley at Northern Iowa
Start Time: 8:00 PM EST
Bradley comes into this matchup with a 16-8 overall record and a 3-4 mark on the road. The Braves are 8-15 ATS overall and 2-5 ATS on the road.
Northern Iowa enters this game with a 14-9 overall record and a 10-3 mark at home. The Panthers are 11-11 ATS overall and 5-7 ATS at home.
This is a home team series with the home team winning nine of the last 10 matchups outright. The home team has also covered eight of the last 10 games in this series.
Bradley has won two of its last three road games, but only covered once over that stretch. Northern Iowa has won and covered in back-to-back home spots.
Northern Iowa has the second-best scoring defense in the nation entering this game. The Panthers make an effort to limit possessions, slow the game down, and drag teams into the mud. They’re especially effective at this on their home floor.
This game is traditionally won by the home team, and the short spread shouldn’t be hard for a defensive-minded team like Northern Iowa to cover. The Panthers aren’t as bad on offense as their metrics make them look, and Bradley has struggled away from their home gym this year. The McLeod Center should be packed and rocking, and the Braves will likely struggle against a Northern Iowa defense that chokes teams out. Lock up the Panthers to get the win and cover at home.
Best Bet: Northern Iowa -3.5
