The Battle of New York hasn’t been much of a battle this season, with the New York Islanders winning both of their matchups with the New York Rangers, outscoring them 7-0 in the process. This doesn’t come as a total shock, as the Rangers are having a miserable season, with the advanced stats ranking them as the worst team in the NHL’s Eastern Conference, and their offense sitting near the bottom of the league.
The Islanders can’t score either, but they aren’t quite as impotent as the Rangers. And their fourth-ranked offense more than offsets the lack of offense, propelling them to 61 points in 52 games. And more bad news for the Rangers – the Islanders are a strong 14-9-2 on their home ice in the UBS Arena.
