MMA Regional Pick of the Week: LFA 225
LFA Bantamweight Fight: Rafael Pereira vs Lionel Abojer
Card Start Time: Friday (1/23), 7:30pm EST (VICE TV)
Lionel Abojer comes into this fight coming off an ugly loss. However, I know the the sportsbooks typically rely on the “what have you done for me lately” a bit too much. It’s worth noting that the fight in question was a title fight and a terrible stylistic matchup for him. In this case, he happens to have one that I really love or him.
Firstly, he’s fighting a guy who likes to measure his opponents a bit too much. It not only has lead to a lot of decisions for Rafael Pereira, but it has also lead to him fighting off his back foot quite a bit. That’s a nightmare against Abojer due to the fact that Abojer moves forward constantly. Despite not being the most adept striker, Abojer loves to be on the front foot to force people into grappling exchanges. Once there, his crafty jiu jitsu takes over – as is evident by his last six wins coming via rear naked choke.
Look for Pereira to start patient and try to find his way into the fight. By the time he’s done that, we should be at the window cashing this underdog ticket.
