Champions League: Matchday 7 – Picks, Predictions, and Best Bets
Club Brugge (-190) over Kairat
It might be a touch of a chalky play, but Club Brugge has been a team that has underperformed in this tournament. At times, they looked like a well oiled machine – like in their 3-3 draw with Barcelona – but other times looked without direction. They find themselves desperate for a win near the bottom of the table and face the very bottom of that same table. While Brugge has been in need of some offense, Kairat’s defense looks like swiss cheese and just might be what they need to get going again.
Monaco Draws With Real Madrid (+500)
If I’m going to take something chalky, I like to rebound with a big play. Madrid is just a week removed from coach Xabi Alonso and the team parting ways after thir loss to second division side Albacete. Maybe they rebound here, but I’d like to leave open the chance that they are still in rough shape. Monaco has also been solid at quieting offenses in this tournament and have drawn half of their games.
Tottenham Hotspur (+180) over Borussia Dortmund
Dortmund isn’t reeling quite the same way Madrid has, but they haven’t looked themselves as of late either. Some lackluster performances in the Bundesliga leave me wondering what kind of shape they are in. Tottenham hasn’t been world beaters as of late either, but they do see to put it together in the Champions League. The last time they hosted Dortmund, Tottenham took a 3-0 victory, and I like them to repeat.
Chelsea -2.5 (+100) over Pafos FC
Chelsea seems to have their offense clicking on all cylinders right now. They have nine goals in their last three games, with eight different names on the tally sheet. Now they geta home fixture against Pafos FC, who has scored just four goals this entire campaign. That puts them second worse in the whole table and in serious danger of being blown out in this one.
Ajax (+550) over Villarreal
For the bulk of this tournament, Ajax looked like they didn’t belong here. However, last time out against Qarabag, they put away four goals – lead by a brace from Oscar Gloukh. It was the offense we had been looking for the whole time. Now they get a team in Villarreal who can’t buy a goal in this tournament. If they come out with that same firepower, look for a huge upset here.
