Best Bet For Tuesday (January 13th): NHL Predictions
Toronto Maple Leafs vs Utah Mammoth
Start Time: 10:00 PM EST
When I was a boy, I’d never pick an NHL team from Utah to beat the Toronto Maple Leafs. That’s mostly because there were no NHL teams in Utah until recently, but you get the point. Times have changed.
And the relatively new Utah Mammoth are a solid NHL team this year, ranking third in the Western Conference based on advanced statistics. The advanced stats and the good old-fashioned win-loss records have both the Mammoth and the Leafs in the same neighborhood. However, there are a couple of factors that tip this matchup in Utah’s favor in my eyes.
The first is that this is the second night of a road back-to-back for Toronto, and some stat crunchers claim a team’s chances of winning in such situations drop by as much as 10%. Secondly, this is a road game for the Leafs, and they’re crummy away from Toronto, going 6-10-2 for the season and dropping five of their last six away games going into action on Monday night.
This all adds up to make Utah, on the moneyline, my best bet for Tuesday.
