Current Champ: Kayla Harrison – Next Challenger: Amanda Nunes
Women’s bantamweight has long been a division stale at the top. For years, Amanda Nunes ran down challenger after challenger and made it look like a one-women division. Then she retired. Almost immediately after, Kayla Harrison made the switch over from PFL and made the division seem exactly the same as “The Lioness” had. While that had many bored with the division again, it inspired Nunes to make a comeback to see two of the greatest bantamweights in history square off.
Their fight will take place as the first title fight in the new year. While that gives some variability to the weight class, it also gives some certainty. Either one of these two will likely win and need just one more defense to be champ at year’s end. With almost nobody else in the division that appears as a real threat, it seems like this fight may cash this future in January.
Amanda Nunes comes in as a +185 underdog, but you can get her future at +350. Already that is a tremendous value. In addition to that, I do really like the matchup for her. There hasn’t been a fighter that has been able to regularly control Amanda Nunes on the mat. Knowing how much better she is on the feet, I like her to take the fight and the future.
