Daily NBA Player Props – January 3rd
Scottie Barnes – Over 15.5 Assists + Rebounds (-129)
While his scoring can sometimes be finicky, Barnes has been filling out the stat sheet quite well lately otherwise. In fact, he has a triple-double in two of his last three games. Additionally, if you look at those last three games, he’s averaging 16.7 rebounds per game – which would clear this projection on it’s own. He’s also putting up 7.3 rebounds per game in that span, which just makes this an easier line. It’ll make it even easier given that the Hawks are one of the worst rebounding teams in the league.
Amen Thompson – Over 17.5 Points (+102)
Amen Thompson is fresh off a game where he led the Rockets in scoring. On Thursday, he hung 23 on the Nets while going 10-of-12 from the field. That 83.3% field goal percentage might not be repeatable, but he is facing an awful defense in Dallas. They rank 21st in the league in points allowed with 117.9 per game. With that and the fact that Thompson has hit this mark in five of his last six games, I think it’s safe to say he’ll do it again.
VJ Edgecombe – Over 15.5 Points (-108)
Edgecombe has back-to-back games of at least 23 points at the moment and has scored at least 20 in six of his last eight. It seems like 20 is the number you can pencil him in for most nights as long as he’s not up against a tough defense. While the Knicks typically are that tough defense you have to worry about – they rank 11th in the NBA in points allowed – they have been much worse on the defensive end without Josh Hart and Karl-Anthony Towns. Over their last three games, they’ve allowed 123.3 points per game, which would instead put them at 25th in the league.
