East Texas A&M at Southeast Louisiana
Start Time: 7:00 PM EST
East Texas A&M comes into this game with a 5-5 overall record and a 1-5 record on the road. The Lions are 6-2 against the spread and 4-2 ATS on the road.
Southeast Louisiana enters this matchup with a 4-6 overall record and a 1-1 record at home. The Lions are 5-4 ATS overall and 0-1 ATS at home.
SELA lost its first Southland Conference game at home to Northwestern State, but followed up with an overtime win on the road at Houston Christian.
East Texas A&M has played one Southland Conference game this year. They went to McNeese and got absolutely drilled.
SELA is a measurably better team than East Texas A&M, and they get to play in their gym. Southeast Louisiana is by far the better defensive team. SELA can defend the perimeter and has enough on the inside to compete with most low-major programs. When it comes to the offensive end, SELA isn’t very good, but East Texas A&M doesn’t really defend. ETAM is a bottom-50 program in most defensive metrics. They’re especially bad at handling perimeter defense. SELA isn’t a very good shooting team, but they play a porous defense on their floor. Southeast Louisiana should win and cover the 4.5 points.
Best Bet: SELA -4.5
Incarnate Word at TCU
Start Time: 8:00 PM EST
Incarnate Word comes into this game with a 5-5 record and an 0-4 record on the road. The Cardinals are 3-4 ATS this year, but 1-3 ATS on the road.
TCU enters this matchup with a 6-3 overall record and a 3-3 record at home. The Horned Frogs are 6-3 ATS and 3-3 ATS at home this season.
Incarnate Word is on a two-game losing streak. The Cardinals have dropped back-to-back games against Nicholls and New Orleans. They do have a four-point win over McNeese at home this year.
TCU also has a loss to New Orleans on its record. The Horned Frogs lost their home and season opener to the Privateers. However, TCU also has competitive losses against Michigan and Notre Dame in Fort Worth.
TCU has struggled with good low-major programs this year. The Horned Frogs blew out bottom-50 teams UMKC and St. Francis (PA), but had a hard time with New Orleans and Lamar. Incarnate Word is on the same level as teams like Lamar and New Orleans. In fact, they arguably have a better roster than either team.
On the offensive end, Incarnate Word’s offense has been solid and can compete with high-major programs in terms of production and efficiency. However, TCU has by far the better defense. Incarnate Word will need to slow the pace, make shots, avoid turnovers, and get a poor shooting night out of TCU to compete in this game. Given how the Cardinals play and how TCU plays to their competition, all of this is likely. Let’s lock up Incarnate Word to stay within the 17.5
Best Bet: Incarnate Word +17.5
North Alabama at Alabama A&M
Start Time: 8:00 PM EST
North Alabama enters this game with a 5-4 overall record and a 2-3 mark on the road. The Lions are 4-3 ATS this year and 4-1 ATS on the road.
Alabama A&M comes into this matchup with a 5-4 record, and all five wins are on their home floor. The Bulldogs are 3-3-1 ATS this year, and 3-0 ATS at home.
North Alabama is on a three-game winning streak. They’ve won at San Francisco, at Jacksonville State, and beat a lower division program at home during their recent run. They haven’t played in 11 days, so they should avoid a big win hangover, but could start slow due to not having played competitively. However, they’re well-coached and disciplined in their system. They have also gone to in-state rivals and won in hostile environments. The Lions have won three out of four games against Alabama A&M, including wins in Huntsville, AL.
Alabama A&M has lost three of its last five. Their three losses? On the road at bigger programs. Their two wins? At home against a lower division program and at home against Tennessee State. The Bulldogs don’t have a win against a team as good or better than North Alabama.
North Alabama ticks a lot of boxes for a road favorite that makes sense to back. They have a solid coach who runs a disciplined program. The Lions are also known for their chippy guard play. They can also rebound, avoid turnovers on offense, and generate turnovers on defense. The number here is incredibly short, but it’s so short against a much worse team that it’s okay to lay. Tony Pujol and North Alabama get a win against an Alabama A&M team that struggles whenever they step up in competition. Lock up the Lions to win by two.
Best Bets: North Alabama -1.5
