While the UFC continues to be the king when it comes to MMA and gambling, there is more MMA than ever to bet on now. Promotions all over the world as well as domestic ones are showing up in sportsbooks. The advantage here is that the data is usually quite a bit less sharp than when you’re making MMA predictions for the UFC. So we’ve decided to dig into some each week to get you started on your regional MMA journey. This week we stay domestic for Fury FC 112 from Houston, Texas for our regional MMA pick.

MMA Regional Pick of the Week: Fury FC 112
Fury FC 112 Featherweight Fight: Carlos Calderon vs Mauricio Gomez
Card Start Time: Sunday (12/14), 2:00pm EST (UFC Fight Pass)
Carlos Calderon was featured on Dana White’s Contender Series, seemingly just 15 minutes away from getting a UFC contract. Despite taking the fight on short notice, he stormed out to an early lead in the fight. He was dominating the grappling against Alberto Montes, and seemed comfortable enough on his feet as well. However, the short notice nature of the fight eventually caught up to him as he gassed out and was finished. While that loss doesn’t look great, it’s easy to see why it happened. Now with a full training camp for this bout, I expect to see the same skill stretched out over three full rounds – should it take that long.
Standing across from him will be Mauricio Gomez. Gomez has shown some holes in his defensive wrestling, which should be a clear avenue that Calderon can explore for the win. Additionally, he’s one for throwing one-and-done punches on the feet and should be a step or two slower than Calderon.
Despite having all of these advantages, the books still have Calderon as an underdog. As a result, I think he’s one of the very best values on the entire card.
