Champions League: Matchday 6 – Picks, Predictions, and Best Bets
FK Qarabağ (-105) over Ajax
This is more of a fade of Ajax than anything else at this point. While Qarabag has looked okay in this campaign, it’s the sheer futility of Ajax that has me on this play. Not only are they 0-0-5 in the the tournament – and dead last in the table – but they have also had an easier run of things. They are coming off of a loss against Benefica, who had previously lost all of their four contests. Their game with Marseille didn’t go any better, and the French side has just one win in their other four games. I just can’t imagine them shaking this off with how bad they’ve looked.
Liverpool Draws With Inter Milan (+265)
We’re getting excellent odds on Liverpool keeping this one close because they have not looked stellar lately in the EPL. They also looked pretty rough in their contest with PSV Eindhoven during the last matchday. However, prior to that, we were talking about a squad who beat Real Madrid and took a 5-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt. Mo Salah might seem unhappy, but he was back in training and looking fit ahead of this one. I think he helps them keep this one on the level – especially with Milan not needing much of a result here.
Marseille (+130) over Union Saint-Gilloise
Union SG has a long history of being good against French sides in Europe. They have yet to drop a game against a team from France, most recently beating Nice during Europa last year. However, their big flaw right now is that they cannot get the offense going. They’ve put up just two goals in their last four Champions League contests. That’s a nightmare against a Marseille squad that has played tight defense. With Gerónimo Rulli between the pipes, they have allowed just six goals, which is the best total for any team outside of the top 11 in the table.
Tottenham (-230) over Slavia Prague
Tottenham hung right with Paris Saint-Germain last matchday. They led three different times, but gave each back before losing 5-3. Richarlison was all over the front and threatened constantly. If they are able to bag a few early, they should have a much easier time keeping Prague at bay. They have scored just twice all tournament and haven’t won a game yet.
Pafos FC Draws With Juventus (+650)
I talked about the stingy defense of Marseille, but Pafos FC has been equally tight in the back. With David Luiz in the back, they have allowed just seven total goals over five games. Juventus, on the other hand, hasn’t looked like they are clicking up front lately. I feel like that could lead us to a low scoring affair and with odds this high, you just can’t pass them up.
