Oakland at Eastern Michigan
Start Time: 6:30 PM EST
Oakland travels to Ypsilanti for an intrastate matchup with Eastern Michigan. Oakland is 0-4 on the road so far this year, but this is the game.
The Golden Grizzlies have lost on the road to Michigan, Houston, Purdue, and UCF. That’s an absolute gauntlet to start the season. Their only win came at home against Defiance from the NAIA.
Oakland got drilled by Michigan and Houston. However, the Golden Grizzlies were competitive against Purdue and almost clipped UCF. The Golden Grizzlies also have a coaching advantage over Eastern Michigan, and they are also a much better shooting team.
Eastern Michigan comes into this game at 2-2. They have a home win against Georgia State and a road win at Detroit-Mercy. The Eagles have only beaten punching bags, and they can struggle to score at times. A hot shooting Oakland team and an Eastern Michigan team in a scoring drought could make for a long night for EMU. Lock up Oakland to get their first road win against Eastern Michigan and cover the 2.5 point spread.
Best Bet: Oakland -2.5
Georgia State at South Dakota State
Start Time: 8:00 PM EST
This game is a part of the Cancun Challenge, but it’s played as a campus game at Brookings, SD.
Georgia State has looked like a team that’s ready to compete for the bottom of the Sun Belt Conference. However, South Dakota State has played like a team that’s gearing up to contend for the Summit League.
The Georgia State Panthers are on the second leg of a back-to-back road spot, and they just lost to Arizona State by 13. Their only win is against a school from a lower division. They’ve also lost to Presbyterian by two, Cincinnati by 10, and got drilled at Eastern Michigan. Their offense ranks among the 50-worst in the country by most metrics.
South Dakota State is 3-0 at home, but two wins are against schools from lower divisions. Their only home win against a DI team came against Merrimack in their season opener.
The Jackrabbits are better on both ends of the floor than Georgia State. They just lost a pair of road games to a high-major and a solid mid-major. South Dakota State drilled an NAIA school. This is their next crack at a DI program, and they won’t miss. Look for the Jackrabbits to run the Panthers out of the gym and cover the big number at home. Lock up South Dakota State to cover.
Best Bet: South Dakota State -12.5
Montana State at Long Beach State
Start Time: 10:00 PM EST
Montana State comes into this matchup with a 2-4 record. The Bobcats are 0-3 on the road this year. This is also the one. Montana State has lost to Colorado by six points, Stanford by six points, and Boise State by four points. All of those games were on the road. Montana State is solid on both sides of the ball and should finish in the top half of the Big Sky Conference this year.
Long Beach State enters this game at 1-4. Their one win is a blowout against a team from a much lower division. The Beach took Illinois State the distance in Long Beach, but still came up short. They also lost games to Pacific, Fresno State, and San Diego State.
Montana State needs a road win, Long Beach State is offensively challenged, and the Bobcats have the clear advantage in terms of roster. Let’s lock up Montana State to win this game and cover the 4.5 points.
Best Bet: Montana State -4.5
