Canisius at High Point
Start Time: 7:00 PM EST
Canisius comes into this matchup at 2-2. Both losses have come on the road. The Golden Griffins got drilled by Dayton and St. Bonaventure. They’re also coming into this one off a win against Mercer in Buffalo, NY.
High Point comes back home after a road loss at UAB. Before the loss? The Panthers dismantled Furman, Jacksonville, and a DII school. The angles here are that High Point is coming off a loss, Canisius has looked really rough on the road, and it’s unlikely that the Golden Griffins will be able to hang with the Panthers.
The pace and athleticism of High Point will mess with the Golden Griffins, and they won’t call off the dogs after the loss. Look for High Point to win this by 30+. Lock up the Panthers to get the cover here.
Best Bet: High Point -25
Loyola Marymount at UC-Santa Barbara
Start Time: 9:00 PM EST
Loyola Marymount enters this matchup at 5-0. The Lions have a road win at UTEP and picked up wins at home against Troy, Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Eastern Washington, and Lincoln (CA). This is their first road game against a team in the Top 200 in KenPom.
UC-Santa Barbara is also undefeated. The Gauchos have gone two-for-two in games at home this year. They have home wins over DII San Francisco State and San Jose State. They also won their first road game at Sacramento State.
Both teams have favorable matchups for the offense when compared to the opposing team’s defense. However, the home court and a few days of extra rest favor UC-Santa Barbara. LMU just played Troy on the 14th, while the Gauchos have been back at home since November 11th. This is also the first time since the 2020-21 season that the Gauchos have hosted their in-state foe. The last three matchups have been played at Loyola Marymount, including last year’s 60-58 win for the Lions.
The Gauchos also have a bit more firepower on offense and should find the friendlier rims in the home environment. Lock up the Gauchos to win and cover at home in this inter-state battle.
Best Bet: UC-Santa Barbara -3.5
Cal State-Bakersfield at Portland State
Start Time: 10:00 PM EST
Cal State-Bakersfield stays on the road for a matchup with Portland State. The Roadrunners have lost both of their road games, but they did manage to cover against Ole Miss.
Portland State comes into this one at 1-2. Their only win comes against a JUCO, but they only lost by 10 to both Stanford and San Francisco. This is their first home game against a DI opponent.
Portland State has looked better than expected against high-major programs. Their defense should be enough to keep Cal State-Bakersfield from getting out ahead, and they can do just enough offensively to get outside the number. CSUB is also without a head coach, and the fallout of the pre-season scandal is still a potential distraction. Portland State gets to punch closer to its weight, and should win by close to double digits against the Roadrunners. Lock up the Vikings to get the cover here.
Best Bet: Portland State -6.5
