Penn State at New Haven
Start Time: 1:00 PM EST
Penn State beat Fairfield by eight points at home in its season opener on Monday. They travel to New Haven for a matchup with the Chargers. The Nittany Lions had the rest of the week off, but New Haven is playing a back-to-back in their first week in DI basketball.
Columbia blew out New Haven in their season opener, and now the Chargers get a Power-Five school the next day. Penn State might be one of the worst teams in the Big 10, but they’re light years ahead of teams like Columbia and New Haven. The Chargers will have tired legs after their first game at the highest level of college basketball.
Penn State has a young-ish roster, but their athleticism and length should be more than enough to carry the Nittany Lions to their second win. Lock up the Penn State to outclass New Haven and cover the double-digit spread.
Best Bet: Penn State -16.5
Milwaukee at Wofford
Start Time: 2:00 PM EST
Bart Lundy’s Milwaukee Panthers travel to Spartanburg, SC, for a matchup with the Wofford Terriers.
Wofford had to replace all five starters and already lost by 24 to George Mason in their first game. The Terriers have been a solid SoCOn program for a few years, but this is one of their weaker rosters in the Jay McAuley era. They have a few portal pieces, but have a very young bench.
Milwaukee is one of the stronger programs in the Horizon League this year and should finish in the top-five, if not the top-three. The Panthers struggled to beat Hampton in their home opener on Monday. They also had to adjust their rotation after senior forward John Lovelace suffered a season-ending injury a few days before the season opener. The loss of Lovelace is a blow, but Milwaukee has adequate depth to cover an injury to its front court.
The Panthers beat a better version of Wofford by two points last year, and now they’re laying 1.5 points at Wofford. Milwaukee has a clearly better roster, and they should roll on the road. Lock up the Panthers to win by more than two points at Wofford.
Best Bet: Milwaukee -1.5
Houston Christian at UC-San Diego
Start Time: 10:00 PM EST
UC-San Diego opened its 2025-26 campaign on Monday with a 32-point win over La Verne. Houston Christian also opened its season on Monday, and narrowly got past the DII Southern Arkansas Muleriders.
Houston Christian lost each of its first two road games by more than 30 points last year. They opened their road schedule against Texas and Creighton, but success isn’t in the cards for the Huskies on the road.
UC-San Diego came into this year with a starting lineup of portal pieces, but the Tritons are expected to challenge for a top-five spot in the Big West. They have length and athleticism that Houston Christian lacks. This is also in UC-San Diego’s building, and they should roll. Lock up UC-San Diego to get the job done against a mediocre HCU team.
Best Bet: UC-San Diego -13.5
