While the UFC continues to be the king when it comes to MMA and gambling, there is more MMA than ever to bet on now. Promotions all over the world as well as domestic ones are showing up in sportsbooks. The advantage here is that the data is usually quite a bit less sharp than when you’re making MMA predictions for the UFC. So we’ve decided to dig into some each week to get you started on your regional MMA journey. This week we head overseas for RIZIN Landmark 12 from Kobe, Hyogo, Japan for our regional MMA pick.

MMA Regional Pick of the Week: RIZIN Landmark 12
RIZIN Featherweight Fight: Kyoma Akimoto vs Kyohei Hagiwara
Card Start Time: Sunday (11/2), 10:30pm EST (Internet PPV)
Japan is well-known for having some absolute freak show fights. On the surface, this one might strike you as that. Both fighters have nine wins on their career ledger, but the losses is where things get different. Akimoto has just a single loss and Hagiwara is rocking double digits in the ‘L’ column. For that reason, Hagiwara is obviously a massive underdog.
Despite those surface stats, I think Hagiwara is a tremendous value in this one. For one, he does a great job at avoiding takedowns. I’ve seen him work some excellent counter wrestling – including a nice ankle pick. Also, when he is taken down, he quickly works back to his feet.
This is all significant because of the difference on the feet. Akimoto is a great grappler, but seems completely out of his element on his feet. When he’s striking, he looks clunky and uncomfortable. Hagiwara could not be more different when it comes to the stand up game. He’s quick and dangerous – particularly with the counter strikes.
The fight gets to start on the feet and it’s just going to take a bit of time for Hagiwara to find an opening. At this price, you can’t afford not to take him here.
