MMA Regional Pick of the Week: Oktagon 79
Oktagon Featherweight Fight: Corey Fry vs Radek Rousal
Card Start Time: Saturday (11/1), 12:00pm EST (Oktagon.tv PPV)
While I like Corey Fry and I think there is a lot of potential there, there is too much that I think favors Rousal in this fight to pass on a line so close.
One of the first things is that Fry is coming off a fairly long layoff. His last fight was more than a year ago and that includes a cancellation on his side earlier this year. Neither of those things are particularly good for a fighter heading into a big fight. Additionally, that fight was a knockout loss to Rousal’s teammate and best friend, Vladimir Lengal. Although he was looking good in that fight until he wasn’t, the fact of the matter is that he still took a nap in it.
The other reason I’m picking Rousal is the stylistic aspect of it. Fry has a tendancy to rush into exchanges. Whle he has been able to put pressure on some of his opponents that way, it has also gotten him caught. Rousal is precisely the type of fighter who makes people pay for those mistakes. I wouldn’t be surprised if he does the same to Fry.
