Race Predictions and Best Bets

The Favorite – (5) Forever Young – 3-1

With the scratch to Sovereignty, the Japanese thoroughbred Forever Young becomes to the odds-on favorite. His signature win came in February when he won the Saudi Cup by a neck. He entered the 2024 Kentucky Derby undefeated, but finished third to Mystik Dan and Sierra Leone. His bounceback in Riyadh shows that he’s still at the top of his game.

Best Bet – (2) Baeza – 7-1

For my pick to win the 2025 Breeders’ Cup Classic, I like Baeza. Running on the inside track, the descendant of Big Brown has put together a solid year. He finished third in the 2025 Kentucky Derby, less than two lengths behind of winner Sovereignty. Since then his HRN speed figures have trended up. While they peaked in August, he comfortably won the 2025 Pennsylvania Derby last month and is in prime position for another big win here.

Trifecta Box – (2) (5) (9)

To make things a bit more interesting in this one, let’s put together a trifecta box for Saturday’s action. Obviously we want to get Baeza, who I expect to win on the top of the card. When looking at the Breeders’ Cup odds, I like what we can get on Forever Young as well. You can’t debate the results that we’re seeing overseas from that horse. To close it out, we’ll add in Journalism. The American came about as close as you can come to winning the Triple Crown this year without actually doing it. He won the Preakness Stakes while taking second in both the Kentucky Derby and the Belmont Stakes.
