Week 8 in college football brought me another week of 1-1 results. Another week of spinning my wheels. A good path to not losing much money; a poor path to making it rich. Let’s look to make a fortune this week. For my college football predictions and best bets for Week 9, we’re hitting up Kenan Stadium in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Let’s go!
College Football Predictions & Best Bets for Week 9
#16 Virginia Cavaliers vs North Carolina Tar Heels
Start Time: 12:00 PM EST
We’ll kick things off with some Atlantic Coast Conference action, as the #16 Virginia Cavaliers head to Chapel Hill to take on the North Carolina Tar Heels. This is a battle between one of the ACC’s top teams and one of its cellar dwellers. And, as opposed to what I’ve been doing most weeks this season, I’m going with the favorite.
The Cavaliers are having quite the season, starting the year off unranked, cracking the top 25 in Week 5, and then moving up the rankings each week since. This is the first time they’ve been nationally ranked since 2019, and their six wins on the season are already the most they’ve won in a year since 2021.
The Tar Heels, meanwhile, have been miserable, going 2-4 thus far, including losing three straight games heading into this weekend, despite not having played a ranked team yet. My line for Saturday is Virginia -19.5, so the Cavaliers on the spread is the play.
Best Bet: Viriginia -10.5 (+104)
#3 Texas A&M Aggies vs #20 LSU Tigers
Start Time: 7:30 PM EST
Now this should be a better game than the one we just covered. The visiting, #3-ranked Texas A&M Aggies are a perfect 4-0 in the SEC, sitting in a tie for first place. And while the LSU Tigers are ranking 20th nationally, they’ve only gone 2-2 in the conference and find themselves in the middle of the pack in the SEC.
Losses in two of the last three weeks have plummeted the Tigers down the rankings from a high of #3 earlier this season. The Aggies, meanwhile, have been like the aforementioned Cavaliers, rising and rising week after week.
And I expect the Aggies’ rise to continue tomorrow night on the road in Baton Rouge. After crunching all the numbers, my line for this matchup is Texas A&M -8, making the Aggies a very strong play on the spread.
Best Bet: Texas A&M -2.5 (-113)
College Football Overall Record: 7-6 (54%)
Profit (based on $100/bet): $42.15
Return on Investment: 3%
