Detroit Red Wings vs Buffalo Sabres
Start Time: 7:30 PM EST
Of the two teams in this Atlantic Division matchup, the Buffalo Sabres were supposed to be slightly better than the Detroit Red Wings this season (85.5 points projected as compared to 84.5). Instead, the Red Wings have been clearly the better team.
Motown’s finest currently sit atop the Atlantic with a 5-1 record, which also puts them in a tie for third place overall in the NHL. However, they’ve benefited from a very heavy home schedule early, with five of their games taking place at Little Caesars Arena. But they are 1-0 on the road, so there’s that.
The Sabres are 2-4 on the year, with both their wins coming on home ice. They have a below-average offense and a perfectly average defense. But they aren’t on the Red Wings’ level, at least not this season, who have a top 10 offense and defense.
Even taking into account the home ice, Detroit is still almost a goal and a half favorite for tomorrow based on advanced stats. That would make the Red Wings, as a moneyline dog, my best bet for Wednesday.
