UFC Vancouver: de Ridder vs Allen – Predictions & Best Bets

Reinier de Ridder (-205) vs. Brendan Allen

The main event on Saturday might be one of the best values on the whole card. Reinier de Ridder has been outstanding since coming to the UFC. He has submitted grapplers, out-wrestled wrestlers and slugged with strikers. Now he gets a late replacement that might not be as good as several of the guys he’s fought. -205 seems like a ridiculously low price considering all of that.

Jasmine Jasudavicius Under 1.5 Takedowns (-135)

The gameplan for Jasudavicius is pretty clear. She’s going to need plenty of takedowns in order to beat Manon Fiorot and her expert striking. However, when Erin Blanchfield came with that same gameplan against Fiorot, she came up short on every attempt. I don’t rate Jasudavicius’ grappling quite as high as I do Blanchfield, so I doubt she’ll have much more success.

Kyle Nelson ML (+100) vs. Matt Frevola

While I’ve always been a far of Matt Frevola, he’s had some issues with his chin as of late. He’s been knocked out in back to back fights and in each of his last three losses. Nelson is coming off a loss himself, but has always had quite a bit of power. Even if he isn’t able to score that big knockout, he should be able to use his hands to pick up two of the three rounds.

Stephanie Luciano -3.5 (+100) vs. Ravena Oliveira

Ravena Oliveira has shown some really sub-par striking in her brief time in the UFC. That extends to prior to her signing as well. If your striking is not up to snuff, Luciano is not the opponent you want to be throwing down with. She looked amazing on the feet in both of her fights with Talita Alencar. She also looked solid in her close fight with Sam Hughes. I expect those hands to carry every round and possibly even find a finish.

Melissa Croden – Wins Inside the Distance (+275)

In her six career wins, Melissa Croden has six career finishes. While that is against lower level opposition on the regional scene, she has great instinct when to comes to finding a finish. Now she’ll get a fighter in Tainara Lisboa, who has struggled with physicality since coming to the UFC. Croden should be able to exploit that and get another one to keep the record perfect.

Cody Gibson – Wins via Submission (+500)

If you’ve read this column, you know I like to end with a bomb.

Gibson has looked sharp with the takedowns since coming back to the UFC. He submitted Brian Kelleher and seems dedicated to his ground work. He’ll get a chance to prove it further with Aoriqileng, who has always had issues with being taken down. While he’s not been submitted in the UFC, the odds here are worth a stab to see the first one.
